Washcoat Engineer

This position is responsible for the scheduling, preparation and completion of the washcoat slurries required to coat parts on the production line based on the latest production schedules. A detailed breakdown of the different responsibilities associated with this position is defined below.

This position reports directly to the Batching Manager and involves a close working relationship with the Quality, Maintenance, Process Engineering (PcE), Process Control Engineer (PCEs), Production Shift Supervisor, and Washcoat Technician positions on each shift in attaining optimal batching productivity and quality.? Washcoat Technicians report directly to the Washcoat Engineer.

Key responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all Johnson Matthey health, safety and hazardous waste procedures and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Grow and develop the Washcoat Technicians assigned to the area to handle the efficient flow of product, optimal use of raw materials, preventive and corrective actions to target zero mistakes, task completion and 100% batching quality to meet production schedules and customer product final specifications.
  • Develop and administer Washcoat Technician performance reviews.
  • Responsible for creating, reviewing, submitting and completing the WC recipes required to prepare the different slurries needed to accomplish the production schedules.
  • Submit and complete all the sampling associated with the batching process so batches are fully approved before use.
  • Monitor and adjust as needed the different WC slurries to the best line process parameters recommended by the Process Engineering or Production areas before being applied on the production lines (pH, viscosity, temperature, solids).
  • Ensure the effective utilization of raw materials in the batching area so minimal waste or obsolescence is avoided while accomplishing his/her duties.
  • Ensure a reliable live inventory of raw materials, WIP, rinses, heels or completed batches in the areas under his/her responsibility.
  • Responsible to follow and maintain all the documentation associated with his/her activities as defined in the Quality Management System.
  • Maintain target precious metal loadings and appropriate statistical analysis.
  • Suggest procedural and process improvements to meet the plant?s productivity and quality goals.
  • Support the implementation of new technologies through new procedures and training of personnel.
  • Be an effective trainer for new hires.
  • Responsible to perform/coordinate the following activities involving hazardous waste:
    • Transporting within the facility
    • Transferring between containers
    • Container management
    • Container labeling
  • Create or complete projects or reports assigned or requested by the Batching Manager.
  • Provide first hand support to Production on issues associated with the WC slurries based on the actual process parameters that may result in significant downtime or LTY hits.
  • Address any potential equipment or batching process issues that may affect or delay the batching schedule. The WCE also conducts extensive troubleshooting of both process and equipment related issues.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels (Oral and written).

You will need:

  • B.S. in an Engineering discipline (chemical preferred)
  • Experience working for JM as a Process Control Engineer preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven leadership skills or ability.
  • Solid problem solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work on an independent basis.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Products.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
